The objective was to evaluate the efficiency of anticipating phosphate fertilization on the development and productivity of second-crop maize intercropped with Urochloa ruziziensis under Cerrado conditions. The experiment was carried out at the Cerrado Agricultural Research Institute (IPAC), located in the municipality of Rio Verde, Goiás. The experiment was set up in a randomized block design (RBD) in a 5x2 factorial scheme, with 10 treatments: 1) control; 2) conventional fertilization; 3) 100% fertilization in the soybean crop; 4) 100% fertilization in the maize crop; 5) 50% fertilization in the soybean crop and 50% in the maize crop. Each treatment was evaluated with and without consortium with Urochloa ruziziensis. The variables evaluated were plant height (PH) (cm); average stem diameter (ASD) (mm); shoot dry mass (SDM) (g plant-1); yield (t ha-1), thousand grain weight (TGW) (g), productivity (YLD) (t ha-1), and shoot dry mass of Urochloa ruziziensis (SDM Urochloa ruziziensis) (t ha-1). The intercropping and timing of phosphate fertilization did not affect the variables PH, ASD, TGW, and SDM of Urochloa ruziziensis. Conventional and 100% fertilization in the soybean was the most recommended for maize. The presence of Urochloa ruziziensis inhibited maize development under the conditions of this study.
