CRediT Authorship Policy
Purpose
The Brazilian Journal of Science (BJS) adopts the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to improve transparency in scientific authorship and accurately recognize the individual contributions of each author.
The CRediT taxonomy provides a standardized framework describing the specific roles performed by contributors during the research and publication process. The journal encourages all submitting authors to identify their individual contributions using this internationally recognized taxonomy.
The adoption of CRediT does not replace the journal's authorship criteria. All listed authors must meet the authorship requirements established by the Brazilian Journal of Science and must approve the submitted and final versions of the manuscript.
Author Contribution Statement
During manuscript submission, the corresponding author should provide a statement describing the contribution of each co-author according to the CRediT taxonomy.
This statement may be published in the final version of the article to ensure transparency regarding individual responsibilities.
Example:
Author Contributions: Conceptualization: John Smith; Methodology: John Smith and Maria Silva; Investigation: Maria Silva; Formal Analysis: John Smith; Data Curation: Maria Silva; Writing – Original Draft: John Smith; Writing – Review & Editing: John Smith and Maria Silva.
Contributor Roles (CRediT)
The Brazilian Journal of Science recognizes the following fourteen contributor roles established by the CRediT taxonomy:
1. Conceptualization
Ideas, formulation or development of the research objectives and overall study design.
2. Data Curation
Management, organization, annotation, validation, maintenance and preservation of research data for initial use and future reuse.
3. Formal Analysis
Application of statistical, mathematical, computational or other analytical techniques to analyze or interpret research data.
4. Funding Acquisition
Obtaining financial support for conducting the research and producing the publication.
5. Investigation
Conducting experiments, fieldwork, laboratory analyses, surveys or other data collection activities.
6. Methodology
Development or design of the research methodology, experimental procedures or analytical models.
7. Project Administration
Management and coordination of the research project and its execution.
8. Resources
Provision of laboratory materials, equipment, biological samples, software, instrumentation, computational resources or other research materials.
9. Software
Development, programming, implementation, testing or maintenance of software, algorithms or computational tools.
10. Supervision
Scientific oversight, mentoring, leadership and guidance throughout the research process.
11. Validation
Verification of the reproducibility, reliability and accuracy of research methods, data and results.
12. Visualization
Preparation of figures, graphical abstracts, tables, illustrations and other visual representations of research findings.
13. Writing – Original Draft
Preparation and writing of the first complete version of the manuscript.
14. Writing – Review & Editing
Critical review, revision, editing and approval of the manuscript before publication.
Authorship Responsibility
All authors listed in a manuscript are collectively responsible for the integrity, accuracy and originality of the submitted work.
The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that:
- all contributors who meet the authorship criteria are included as authors;
- all authors approve the submitted manuscript and any revised versions;
- the reported CRediT contribution statement accurately reflects each author's participation.
Editorial Policy
The Editors may request clarification regarding author contributions whenever necessary.
Submission of inaccurate, misleading or fraudulent contribution statements may constitute scientific misconduct and will be handled in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics, Research Integrity, and Corrections and Retractions Policies.
