Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
The Brazilian Journal of Science recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are becoming increasingly integrated into scientific research and scholarly publishing. The journal supports the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI while maintaining the highest standards of research integrity.
Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI-assisted technologies to improve grammar, language, readability, manuscript organization, programming, or data analysis, provided that such use does not compromise the originality or scientific integrity of the work.
Any substantial use of AI during the preparation of a manuscript must be transparently disclosed within the manuscript, specifying the AI tool used and its purpose.
Authorship
Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, or ethical compliance of scientific work.
Only individuals who satisfy the journal's authorship criteria may be identified as authors.
Responsibility
Authors remain solely responsible for:
- the accuracy of all scientific content;
- originality of the manuscript;
- proper citation of sources;
- interpretation of results;
- compliance with ethical standards;
- disclosure of conflicts of interest.
The use of AI does not diminish or transfer these responsibilities.
Editors and Reviewers
Editors and reviewers must preserve the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and should not upload confidential manuscripts or peer review materials into publicly accessible AI systems that may retain, reproduce, or reuse submitted content.
The Editorial Office may employ AI-assisted tools only for administrative purposes that do not compromise confidentiality, editorial independence, or the integrity of the peer review process.
